Programme Overview and Qualifications
Nursing is an independent and well-defined profession. Nurses are not merely support staff assisting physicians, but highly educated professionals with clearly established roles and responsibilities within the healthcare team. At the Faculty of Health Studies, education for registered and fully licensed nurses is balanced between theoretical instruction and hands-on clinical practice, supported by structured individual learning. Whereas nursing skills were once limited to basic care tasks such as making beds or repositioning patients, modern nursing encompasses a wide range of complex clinical, organisational, and interpersonal competencies. With the increasing complexity of healthcare delivery, ageing populations, the growing prevalence of chronic diseases, the introduction of advanced technologies, and the rising cost of medical procedures, the need for well-educated healthcare professionals has become more important than ever. Today, a bachelor’s degree is widely recognised as the minimum qualification required for independent nursing practice and related healthcare fields.
Expected Competencies
Graduates holding a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Nursing are qualified to participate in nursing research, work in healthcare and health education institutions, support physicians in clinical evaluations and deliver home care as prescribed, establish collaboration with schools, social services, and community organisations, and take on leadership roles within nursing teams.
