Programme Overview and Qualifications
The Finance and Accounting programme at the Faculty of Economics, University of Bihać, is aligned with the curricula of European Union countries and, as a newly established academic track, supports integration into European processes that require more efficient participation in market trends. The programme is structured as a First Cycle undergraduate study lasting three years, with a total of 180 ECTS credits. The demand for professionals in accounting and finance is continually increasing in the labor market, and with the anticipated strengthening of the Bosnian and Herzegovinian economy, this demand is expected to grow even further. Accordingly, the Finance and Accounting track offers a wide range of career opportunities for which students will be qualified upon graduation. Students are trained to perform advanced professional tasks in the fields of finance, accounting, and auditing, applicable across all sectors of the economy and public administration, including the financial sector (banks, insurance companies, investment and pension funds), the corporate sector (manufacturing, trade, and service-oriented companies), audit firms, the public sector (budget-funded institutions and non-profit organizations), and consulting services (property, investment, and accounting advisory, family business). The Finance and Accounting programme is also well suited for entrepreneurs who wish to expand their knowledge in the fields of economics, finance, and accounting.
Expected competencies
Students who complete the Finance and Accounting programme are prepared for roles in banking, microcredit, and insurance sectors, as well as accounting positions. Upon graduation, they possess both fundamental and applied knowledge of business economics and are ready to perform key business functions in a contemporary economic environment. Graduates are equipped to independently analyse and solve complex business problems within a dynamic and ever-changing professional context. They have the skills to understand financial statements and apply accounting information effectively in business decision-making. Additionally, they acquire the knowledge needed to identify and address current challenges in finance, accounting, and auditing. Ultimately, graduates develop a comprehensive understanding of monetary and fiscal systems both within Bosnia and Herzegovina and internationally, along with the ability to interpret and apply fiscal regulations. These competencies are essential for success in any business and are thoroughly developed throughout the course of study.
