Dženana Gačo, PhD. Vice-Rector for Teaching and Student Affairs



Associate Professor Dženana Gačo was born in 1964 in Bihać. She completed her primary and secondary school education in Bihać, and in 1989 she graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Banja Luka. For her outstanding accomplishments during the studies she received a Silver Badge. She also won a DAAD scholarship. She defended her Master’s thesis and acquired the title of Master of technical sciences at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Bihać. She defended her doctoral dissertation under the title Investigation of the influence of variable structural load and temperature on the behaviour of welds on high-alloyed steel in 2007 at the Faculty of Mechanical engineering, University of Belgrade, and acquired a title of Doctor of Technical Sciences in the field of Mechanical Engineering. 

After graduating she started working at Project Institute Unaprojekat Bihać. After that she worked as a teacher in Engineering and Traffic Vocational Secondary School in Bihać (1994-1996), and since 1996 she has been working at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Bihać as a Teaching Assistant, Senior Teaching Assistant, Assistant Professor and Associate Professor. Her fields of expertise are fracture mechanics, and integrity and service life of structures.

From 2010 to 2015 she was the dean of Faculty of Health Studies, University of Bihać, and from 2017 to 2019 she was Vice-Rector for Teaching and Student Affairs at the University of Bihać. Associate Professor Dženana Gačo was acting Rector from September 2019 to March 2020. She was an active researcher on eleven projects, out of which five were international projects. She published numerous scientific and professional papers. She is an internal auditor for the quality management system of TUV Thüringen.
